Legal Schema Markup for Law Firms: Attorney, LegalService, and FAQPage in 2026
Schema is how AI engines verify bar admissions and classify legal content. Most firm sites have none. Here is the implementation that gets cited in YMYL legal queries.
When ChatGPT recommends a personal injury lawyer in Austin, it verifies that the firm is an actual law firm with attorneys admitted to the Texas bar and that they handle personal injury cases. Schema markup is the primary mechanism. Firms with structured Attorney and LegalService schema get verified and cited. Firms without it have to be inferred, and AI engines often skip inference for YMYL content.

If schema lists bar admissions, the bio page should display them visibly. Mismatch is treated as deceptive.
Keep credentials current
Active and in good standing. Suspended or inactive bar admissions must be reflected in schema. Stale credentials are worse than no credentials.
Use bar number identifiers where appropriate
State bar numbers in the identifier field improve verification signals.
Validate every change
https://validator.schema.org/ and Google’s Rich Results Test. Errors break the entire schema block.

What about non-attorney staff (paralegals, intake)?
Use Person schema with accurate credential markup. Do not type them as Attorney.
Can I include hourly rates in pricing schema?
For most firms, contingency fee for personal injury is the appropriate pricing representation. For hourly billing, the priceRange field can describe hourly ranges. Most firms use general fee structure descriptions rather than specific dollar figures.
What if my firm does not have an aggregateRating yet?
