E-E-A-T (E-E-A-T)

Google's framework (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) for evaluating content quality, weighted heavily by AI engines when choosing which sources to cite.

E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. It is the framework Google’s quality raters use to judge content, expanded from the older E-A-T in 2022 to add Experience as a distinct signal.

What it is

The framework asks whether content comes from someone who has actually done the thing (Experience), who knows the subject deeply (Expertise), who is recognized as a go-to source (Authoritativeness), and whether the page and its publisher can be relied on (Trustworthiness). Trust sits at the center, since accurate, honest content is the point the other three support.

AI answer engines lean on E-E-A-T signals when deciding which sources to cite, and they lean on them hardest for high-stakes topics. In medical, legal, and financial verticals, often called Your Money or Your Life subjects, an engine is far more likely to cite a page with clear authorship, credentials, and a trustworthy publisher behind it. Weak trust signals are a common reason strong content goes uncited.

How to apply it

Name your authors and show their qualifications, cite primary sources, keep facts current, and make the publishing organization easy to verify. For deeper coverage, see our E-E-A-T guide.
